Albaöl with the ECARF allergy seal

Food allergies and intolerances are no longer uncommon these days. Millions of people are affected by it. The ECARF allergy seal helps these people to orientate themselves more easily and to immediately recognize allergy-friendly products.

Albaöl, Albaöl HC and Albaöl Bio bear this seal because they do not contain any of the 14 allergens that require declaration. Although all three oils taste and smell like fresh butter, they are of course also milk protein and lactose-free - naturally (keyword: lactose intolerance).

Food allergies and intolerances – facts & figures

Back in 2012, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) found that 17 million people, or 30% of the total population in Europe, suffer from food allergies. According to the German Nutrition Society (DGE), a year later there were around 2.8 million people in Germany alone (3 - 4% of the population). In addition, there are around 14 million people (15 – 20% of the population) who struggle with food intolerances, such as lactose intolerance.

The Swedish manufacturer Taste of Sweden/AAK Dalby took into account the fact that more and more people are suffering from food allergies and intolerances more than 10 years ago. With Albaöl, he offers a product that is completely free of allergens - far beyond the legal requirements. So it's no wonder that Albaöl was the first cooking oil in the world to be awarded the ECARF allergy seal in 2009.

What does ECARF mean?

“Quality of life despite allergies” is the motto of the European Center for Allergy Research Foundation, or ECARF for short. With the ECARF seal of quality, it recognizes manufacturers for their willingness to innovate and high quality in the interest of the allergic end consumer.

The ECARF allergy seal on the Albaöl labels is intended to make product selection easier for allergy sufferers and to clearly signal to them that Albaöl is a cooking oil that is particularly suitable for people with allergies.

According to the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI 2012), 17 million people in Europe suffer from food allergies. Of these, 3.5 million are under 25 years old.

Around four to five percent of all young people and adults in Germany have a food allergy. The number of young and adult residents of Germany over the age of 15 was reported to be around 70 million in 2017. This would mean that the number of food allergy sufferers among them is around 3.5 million.
